Interested in becoming an Election Inspector?

The City Clerk's office is accepting applications for Election Inspectors. In Michigan, election inspectors (sometimes referred to as “poll workers”) are registered electors of the state, who are responsible for election procedures at the polling location to which they are assigned, such as prep work before opening the polls, issuing ballots, providing assistance to voters, explaining how to mark the ballot or use the voting equipment, monitoring the voting equipment, closing the polls and preparing election returns.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day. Election inspectors should be able to work a full day. The work day begins at 6 a.m. and ends upon completion of duties after the polls close.

Qualifications: Election inspectors must be a qualified and registered elector of the state of Michigan, have a good reputation, and must be able to perform the mental and physical duties that are required, have a sufficient education and clerical ability to accomplish the responsibilities of the office, and NOT be a candidate or be related to a candidate for any office to be voted on at the polling place at that election.

Interested? Applications are available at the office of the City Clerk, located at City Hall, 97 N. Broad Street. In addition to submitting a completed application, if you are appointed there will be training you will be required to take prior to working the polls. This is a great way to serve your community and get involved in the civic process. For more information, please contact the City Clerk at (517) 437-6441.
